Im3 participates in the green hydrogen megaproject H2 Magallanes

24/03/2022

Im3 did work for the Magallanes H2 Green Hydrogen project. The project consists of a generation complex, mainly composed of wind farms, taking advantage of the wind potential and the high factor of a local power plant, in the Magalhães and Chilean Antarctica Region.

This project will have up to 10 GW of installed wind capacity, together with up to 8 GW of electricity capacity, a desalination plant, an ammonia plant (NH3) and port facilities to transport green ammonia for the domestic and international markets.

The objective of the services contracted to Im3 is to carry out the studies to be able to launch the project in 2025, with a view to the production of hydrogen in 2027.

Im3 developed the modeling parameters and power flow studies to imagine an Independent and Private Interconnected System (SIIP), in the Magallanes area, destined to produce green hydrogen.

The H2 project integrated in DigSilent 1,300 wind turbines located in two areas and the project involved the definition of 8 500/33 kV substations and the associated transmission lines, as well as relevant complementary generation with ammonia and gas batteries.

This mega system is in the preliminary conceptual phase and will soon enter the development phase. For more information, contact Marcelo Salinas.
