{"id":12118,"date":"2021-09-22T18:28:15","date_gmt":"2021-09-22T18:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.ingenieros-im3.com\/uncategorized\/230th-anniversary-of-the-father-of-electricity\/"},"modified":"2022-11-30T18:04:42","modified_gmt":"2022-11-30T18:04:42","slug":"230th-anniversary-of-the-father-of-electricity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ingenieros-im3.com\/en\/noticias\/230th-anniversary-of-the-father-of-electricity\/","title":{"rendered":"230th Anniversary of the Father of Electricity"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>22\/09\/2021<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Albert Einstein kept three portraits on his study wall, one of Arthur Schopenhauer, the second one of James Clerk Maxwell, and there was a third one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Michael Faraday was born 230 years ago, he was from a humble family and had only the most basic school education, but this didn\u2019t stop him from becoming a great scientific discoverer: the Father of Electricity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">The demonstrations of Faraday in the period 1821-1832 established that a changing magnetic field produces an electric field; this relation was later modelled mathematically by\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT-BR\"><a title=\"James Clerk Maxwell\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Clerk_Maxwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: windowtext; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">James Clerk Maxwell<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT-BR\"><a title=\"Faraday&#039;s law of induction\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Faraday%27s_law_of_induction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: windowtext; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">Faraday&#8217;s law<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">, which subsequently became one of the four\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT-BR\"><a title=\"Maxwell&#039;s equations\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maxwell%27s_equations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: windowtext; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">Maxwell equations<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">, and which have in turn evolved into the generalization known today as\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT-BR\"><a title=\"Field theory (physics)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Field_theory_(physics)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: windowtext; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">field theory<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Faraday would later use the principles he had discovered to construct the electric\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"PT-BR\"><a title=\"Electrical generator\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrical_generator#Dynamo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"color: windowtext; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">dynamo<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">, the ancestor of modern power generators and the electric motor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Near the end of his career, Faraday proposed that electromagnetic forces extended into the empty space around the conductor. This idea was rejected by his fellow scientists, and Faraday did not live to see the eventual acceptance of his proposition by the scientific community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Faraday&#8217;s concept of lines of flux emanating from charged bodies and magnets provided a way to visualize electric and magnetic fields; that conceptual model was crucial for the successful development of the electromechanical devices that dominated engineering and industry for the remainder of the 19th century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;\">At the end of his career, Faraday started to think that light itself is just one form of vibrating lines of electromagnetism, or said in other words, that light is an electromagnetic wave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 6.0pt 0cm 6.0pt 0cm;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 11.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;\">Later, Maxwell demonstrated that electromagnetism travels at the speed of light, proving Faraday right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Maxwell and Faraday became close friends. And they were also close in another place.
